Title: Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)

Date: 13 June 2025

Description: Open Educational Resource (OER) developed as part of the second training offer by the UNITA Teaching and Learning Centres (May–June 2025), aimed at strengthening university teaching staff competencies in internationalisation.

Authors: Paloma Fernández-Rasines, Aneider Iza Erviti, Julia Itziar Amorena.

Summary: This video is part of the third session of the course Recipes to Promote Teaching and Learning in an International Environment, delivered by Paloma Fernández-Rasines and Aneider Iza Erviti, professors at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA). It introduces the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), an innovative mobility format that combines virtual learning with a short-term physical stay abroad.

The BIP provides inclusive, high-quality international experiences for students without requiring long-term mobility. Designed by at least three higher education institutions from different European countries, it includes collaborative online activities and a face-to-face component lasting between five and thirty days, with the participation of at least ten European students from outside the host country.

The video outlines the planning, implementation and evaluation phases of a BIP, highlighting essential aspects such as institutional coordination, the roles of key stakeholders (teaching staff, international offices, pedagogical advisors), and academic, logistical, and language requirements.

Beyond fostering intercultural skills, teamwork and employability, the BIP enhances the international dimension of academic programmes and grants between three and six ECTS credits officially recognised as part of the degree supplement. This initiative supports a more equitable and sustainable internationalisation by offering real opportunities for cross-border collaboration to a wider range of students.
